How to Keep Motivated to Train Hard

Updated: Feb 24, 2021

It’s difficult sometimes to push ourselves when we feel unmotivated to workout. Desire to train happens to lie on a continuum. Regardless, it is important to make time to train, especially if your career depends on it as an athlete and greatness awaits! Turning on the Rocky montage videos only give us quick motivation. We can do better! Below are some great tips on how to push harder when motivation isn’t soaring!

Tip 1- Have a plan and goals! Set up a training plan so that you have an agenda for the days that you plan to train. Plan yourself to have dedicated recovery weeks as well. For instance, train hard for 3-5 weeks, then have a planned active rest week. You’ll be chomping at the bit to train hard once that light week is over!

Tip 2- Pack your favorite sneakers and gym clothes. Before you go to bed, pack your gym clothes, and make sure your favorite shirt and shorts are in your bag. Look good, feel good, lift good.

Tip 3- Have a playlist. Go through and add songs to your playlist that will make you feel good and amped up! Aim for about 5-10 songs that you can shuffle. Some of my favorites include Nirvana and any and all hard rock!

Tip 4- Switch up exercises. Do you find yourself doing the same exact exercises each day that you train? Although adherence to the training plan is integral for progress, it might be time for some new ideas if your current exercises don’t get you amped up enough! Maybe do box squats instead of high bar back squats, or maybe switch the deadlift to an RDL.

Tip 5- Accountability is key! By having teammates, training partners, or trainers that you can rely on, they will encourage you to be great and succeed every step of the way!

Love the process, and train hard.
